Sundays Festivus

This week my grievances are teens and hard boiled eggs.

There is a funny story that happened a long time ago when Darryl and I were first married. We had been at my parents house for Easter and we had our Black Lab Duchess with us. Home was 9 hours away. As we got to the pass through the mountains it got really cold there was still a lot of snow on the ground. Suddenly the worst smell imaginable. There was no choice but to open the windows and freeze till the smell went away. As soon as we got the car aired out and closed the windows we were assaulted again. Pretty much the whole rest of the way home. We couldn't figure out what happened till we found out later that my sister and her husband fed Duchess a whole buch of hard boiled eggs just before we left.

So naturally my teens thought it would be funny to repeat this trick. Problem is Labradors stomachs are not as sensitive as Chihuahua's so we have had all sorts of messes, hurling etc this week. Our Chocolate Lab did okay except one hurl but our 2 Chihuahua's are all messed up.

Sunday's Festivus ED 14

This week has been SO much better! Very few ants, plunging but no overflow, bookcases stayed in upright positions. So what to have a grievance about?........

Pain, grumpiness, and sleepiness.

I injured my piraformis muscle last Fall, and it is acting up again. It is a muscle deep in your hip that sits next to the sciatic nerve. When it gets irritated it rubs on that sciatic nerve. That causes pain down into the leg. My pain is going down into my calf. I am now on muscle relaxers, anti inflammatory's, and pain meds. This makes me tired and I do not like being tired. I have little energy as it is. However these medicines are important because of grumpiness.

Grumpiness. I can handle pain for a while then I get extremely grumpy and downright mean. I said some very mean things this week. Such as "I believe that makes you look as if your IQ just dropped 100 points" That is really MEAN for me as I am usually sweet. I was grumpy with my children. Thats when I decided to go get the meds.....But now I am sleepy.

Sleepiness. I fell asleep at my parents today in the middle of Easter festivities. Then I went home and slept for 7 hours. I am now ready for bed again. TOO MUCH SLEEP!

Sundays Festivus

A place to air grievances for the week.......

My week has been full of trials. Money trials that threaten our ability to go on the mission trip this summer, weather trials which threaten our ability to raise money and time constraints which make our lives so busy we wonder how we will ever complete everything.

We just had the van in the shop and it cost 350.00. Now the Sable is shaking terribly when we brake. Add to that the burning rubber smell in the garage from the washing machine that stopped mid cycle, and we can see our tax return dwindling away. We need that money for the mission trip. So coupled with the fact that I think I can do anything with the proper info....hubby and I are going to try and fix the washer ourselves. We looked under it Saturday evening and it definitely was the drive belt. You can see how complicated this is going to be here. I will let you know how it goes. I have replaced dryer belts several times. I have laid linoleum. I have fixed freezer icemakers. (okay I had help from hubby, but I find the info, read it and then coerce him to help. He is a great sport) But this, by far, is going to be the most difficult. I will let you know next week how it goes.

Tomorrow we have a car wash scheduled to raise money for the mission trip. The weather calls for rain. It is raining right now. I have prayed for sun. I will take my sunglasses and let you know how it turns out.

Busyness. (I am actually not complaining about these as we need to raise money and the opportunities are pouring in. We are so grateful for the help of my father who set up 3 car washes and donated money, to Darryl's parents who purchased the computers and printer for us to sell, and donated their portion, plus offered to do a benefit concert) However tomorrow as soon as the car wash is over we have to run home, take a shower, and run to our next fundraiser which is a spaghetti dinner, of which I am the cook. After the dinner is a concert by Michael Harris. In two more weeks Darryl's Dad, Parson Larson will be doing a concert with a benefit dinner which we will be hosting. I have 10 donated computers and a industrial sized printer to sell. All that and only one car ( shaky car needs to go in), lots of time in a laundry mat (until washer is fixed) and a garden to plant. Oh and I almost forgot.....Squirty our Chihuahua just might be pregnant! I am thinking the puppies will only be 5 weeks old when we leave for Ecuador.

Good thing all I have to do is pray about it and God will take care of all of it for me. He will either give me the energy to handle it or will assist me to get the jobs done as easy as possible.

Sundays Festivus Ed 7

A day to air your grievances about your circumstances this past week in a positive, funny manner. (behold the festivus poles in all their plainness) I have read that the festivus poles are not to be decorated, to keep it as simple as possible. If you do not know what a Festivus is, it came from the show Seinfeld. George's father wanted an alternative holiday where everyone aired their grievances about each other! It was hilarious. George's Dad called it a "Festivus for the Rest Of Us".

My grievance this week is about housecleaning. (None of these things happen during the week when the house is not clean)

Why is it that once the kitchen floor has been scrubbed to a sparkling shine, that you are so proud of, that the dogs (or kids) track mud in? Or the bathroom floor that once clean, becomes a "yard" for dogs to poop on?

Why is it when you clean the kitchen and make sure every dish is clean and put away, that your 2 children who are home for 2 1/2 hours (not meal time either) are able to dirty 10 glasses, 3 plates and a bowl?

Why is it that after vacuuming the family room floor the large chocolate lab will bring in a small log and proceed to turn it into sawdust?

Why is it that washing the bathroom rugs is a dangerous venture, as cats and dogs alike think it doesn't smell quite right and will pee and poo on it to help it get that back yard smell? I once bought a white bathroom rug and it never stayed on the floor for more than overnight before one of the cats branded it. I finally got rid of it.

Why is it that when the sink is clean your hubby will pick that precise moment to wash off something very dirty that really should be washed outside?

Why is it that once you get the computer cords all separated and organized with ties that is when the boys have new stuff and have to mess around till they are all tangled again?

Why is it that when you are ready to make lunch you find that someone (the invisible family member) has eaten the ingredients and you end up having leftover pizza?

Why is it that airing my grievances helps me feel so much better and I can go about cleaning up the messes with a happy heart? I imagine that airing them helps me to release the frustration and all I have left is the "happy".

Sundays Festivus ed 6

This weeks grievances include Little Dude and rude introductions

Little Dude had been behaving himself quite well. He was relieving himself in the appropriate places (outside, outside, and outside) That is up until this last week when he managed to find a bean burrito and eat half of it before anyone noticed. Now first of all where does a Chihuahua find a bean burrito? The garbage can is way too tall and when we get burritos, they are eaten before you can say John Jacob Jingle Hymer Schmidt. The "where he got it" is still a mystery. Since then I have walked through poo that was on the bathroom rug (easier to clean) and walked it over to the hallway rug (much more difficult to clean), it got on my new light pink slippers (moderately difficult to clean) and smelled up the bedroom before I figured out what had happened. He has poo'd in his kennel each and everytime qwe have left him in there and has to get up several times a night to go potty. If he didn't cuddle up so sweetly on my shoulder and bounce around on his hind legs like a ballerina, I might not have the strength to clean up all the messes. Now for the rude part. My father in law sings coutry gospel and has 3 CD's out. He has a beautiful voice. You can see his web site Parson Larson by clicking on the link in my sidebar. Last night he had a concert in and the gentleman introducing him, am sure meant no harm, but this is the way he was introduced: "Parson Larson is singing for us tonight. He has a little twang to his music and that turns some people off. But I am here because I like his kind of music, and I am happy to be here". Something like that. I was horrified. Later he came up to my mother in law and said "I dont mean anything rude but your husband has a great voice for an old person". I think they need to get a new announcer OR lessons in diplomacy! (doubly horrified)

Sundays Festivus ed 5

A day to air my grievances

I am finding that the bad situations I find myself in are less irritating when I remember the satisfaction that I get when I blog them under my Sunday's Festivus!

First of all I bought a brand new pair of Leggs Pantyhose so I would be already for church this week. However upon opening them, I found 3 cut off legs , obviously used, with runs in them. (Someone at the store is up to NO GOOD) Fortunately I always have a back up pair. I opened them up and was thrilled to see they were new, unused and without runs. Well for about 30 seconds. I was in a hurry and when I was putting them on one leg brushed against a sharp edge of a container. And wa la....a run.

Secondly I was going to have company this week so I cleaned and had everything perfect. I was putting the final touches on my hair when I heard the familiar gurgling of the toilet. This toilet over flows very easy and then the bathroom rugs get soaked and it is a huge mess. Thinking very quickly I managed to pick up the rugs and grab the plunger. It still overflowed (and we were late to church) but at least I didn't have to go all day without bathroom rugs and company here.

Sundays Festivus ed 4

This weeks grievances...hmmmm oh yes. I have not been able to post all week as I added too many slide shows to my blog and it froze up my computer each time I signed on. I finally went to my mom's house and disabled them so I can post again. YEAH!!! Little Dude (our Chihuahua with a personal potty problem) has been behaving himself and going potty in the acceptable places (outside). Another yeah! I did get mildly frustrated this week at my family after they take showers. They do not put down the absorbent bath mat, so I walk into the bathroom with my socks on and feel the cold moisture soaking in. Plus the last person in the shower is supposed to pick up the bath mat and hang to dry, close the shower curtain and push the button on the Dow Automatic Shower Cleaner (which I might add is a wonderful invention, it sprays Dow Bathroom Cleaner all over. The scrubbing bubbles work hard so I don't have to!) In addition there is always a pile of newspapers. SO last week I posted the rules. #1 Each person has there own color of towel (useful in many ways of detective work) and if you use someone else's towel you can help with all towel washing the next week. #2 If you do not put down the floor mat the you are to wear socks into the kitchen where I will pour some water and you can walk through it (HAHA) and you can clean the bathrooms the next week. #3 If you left a mess in the bathroom and did not pick up the bathmat or push the cleaner button you will be taking baths in the other bathroom for a week! I am amused to report that my entire family other than me (and the rules were posted in the bathroom next to the shower) will be taking baths instead of showers, walking around in wet socks, cleaning the bathrooms and washing/ folding towels for an entire week! YEAH FOR ME!!!!!

Sundays Festivus Ed 3

This weeks festivus once again includes our littlest Chihuahua "Little Dude" he finally got over his intestinal problems from the swallowed wrapper. Now however he enjoys retrieving choice things out of the bathroom trash. He runs all over with these choice items and some of them even stain the hallway carpet. So while I picked my trash and my hubby cleaned the carpets. The moment he was done he let the dogs back in and our huge chocolate lab ran all the way to the bedroom with muddy feet. I will post a pic of them and their sweet sister in just a little bit. Then you will see why we put up with them. Especially Little Dude as he is cuddly and cute. What is your grievances this week? If you leave a comment I will leave a link to your site.

Sunday Festivus Ed 2

A day to air grievances

Festivus is suppose to be how others have disappointed you, however I prefer my version, which is how myself and my circumstances have disappointed me. This weeks grievances include: My littlest Chihuahua “Little Dude” Has continuing problems this week. He has decided that it is too cold to relief himself outside so it would be just as good to do it in the house. I have been washing out laundry, throw rugs and slippers all week. The kicker was when I woke up in the middle of the night to “the pose” at the end of my bed. I got up and washed out my big King sized comforter and as I was slipping into bed I slipped on more than what I had planned on. Now I had to wash off the down comforter and ready it for the dry cleaners. Take a long hot shower and try to disinfect the spot on my leg and then try to find more bedding. AHHHH I feel better now. What are your grievances? Leave a positive accounting of your grievances in comments. You'll feel better, I promise!

Sundays Festivus ed 1

Sunday's Festivus

A day to air my grievances

Festivus is suppose to be how others have disappointed you, however I prefer my version, which is how myself and my circumstances have disappointed me. This weeks grievances include #1. My annual sickness of three illnesses in a row is in the 4th week and I am so tired of being sick! (note to self --start anti sickness routines in November and continue through January next year) #2. It is Jan 7 and I still have to take down my outdoor lights. ( a blog I read recently mentioned watching to see how long it takes people to take down their lights) and #3 RAIN. I usually don't mind, but we have had more than our share this year! The backyard has miniature lakes and the dogs have to be pushed out the door to go potty even with raincoats on. Not to mention the mess their feet make upon reentry.

Addendum: Today has more grievances than I can imagine. First of all Our littlest Chihuahua, who has continually made our Chocolate lab and other Chihuhua look like "model" dogs that should charge a premium for their offspring, managed to pee on himself (dont even ask) and needed a bath first thing this morning. Less than an hour later he poo'd on the family room carpet. Which brings me to my next grievance. He also ate two throat lozenges with the wrappers this last week. As I trying to grab the wrapper out of his mouth he turned and did this "gulping as fast as he could" thing and the wrapper was gone. SO now he has an extreme case of the "trots". In the midlle of the night he so kindly decided to let us sleep and relieved himself on our dirty laundry, so I have been washing out clothes all morning. As a result, he was banned to the huge kennel we use on occasion for our labrador. He is let out at regular intervals to do his business outside. You would think we had put him in a straight jacket for all the noise he is making about not being able to be part of the "pack" and climb all over us when we are sitting. You would also think that as some point he would figure out that if he asked to go outside (and actually do the business outside), he would not be in such a predicament. But NO.... Less than a minute from coming in from one of his outdoor adventures, he poo'd in the kennel, and then danced through it trying to get our attention. Effective I must say. I cleaned it up and flushed it only to have the toilet start to overflow. As I was plunging the toilet and my husband was cleaning carpets I mentioned that I was so happy I declared a Festivus so I could "Air my Grievances". The laughter that ensued was SOOO worth it! I am wondering what MESSES the rest of the day has for me. AHHHH I feel better now. What are you grievances? Leave a positive accounting of your grievances in comments. You'll feel better, I promise!
